Gretchen and I buy like 7 albums at Sonic Boom, none of which were the one I was looking for.

1. Metallica - Ride the Lightning

2. Elliott Smith - XO

3. Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter - Like, Love Lust & The Open Halls of the Soul

4. Flight of the Conchords - Self Titled

5. Beirut - The Flying Club Cup

6. Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction 12″ Single

7. Regina Spektor - Better 7″

Can you guess who bought which? I doubt it.

Ice Cream Social - Mid-May

Posted by Matt on April 28, 2008

So for my annual Ice Cream feed it looks like its going to turn into a large Ice Cream Social event. I have decided to fill a vase with Ice Cream and all the fixings and spend some time eating it.

I’m 90% sure this is going to happen on May 17th, I’ll probably send out an invitation later, but this is the stuff I think we’ll need:

  1. Ice Cream - Maybe even home made!
  2. Sprinkles
  3. Cherries
  4. Bananas
  5. Nuts
  6. Chocolate Sauce
  7. Butterscotch
  8. Gummy Bears?
  9. Long spoons

What else should be there? Beer?

Also, this is subject to the weather as Gretchen will give you the “you can all eat ice cream, but you can’t eat it here” if its crappy outside.

(PS. Mr. Growler - You will be invited)

Froot Loops Aplenty

Posted by Matt on April 24, 2008

Updates

  1. Nasal Douche working reasonably well, had issues with water temperature last night, bloody nose today
  2. TV is 5 days away, currently trying to plan where and how to fit in. Apparently there is not much to do wit a Playstation 3 if you are buying it to watch movies in HD and only have a 20″ non-HD screen. It does however seem like an alien device in my house, it just sort of screams futuristic alien society box of doom.
  3. Sold Troy a studfinder for the price of 2 beers. He definitely needs one (oho! Zing!)
  4. Mariners are causing lots of issues with personal feelings of self worth, am going to start actively rooting for Baltimore Orioles because they have a bunch of players I like and they seem to win.
  5. Still trying to figure out primary politics, and am pretty sure that whatever happens it will be so incredibly stupid that I blackout, and then John McCain will be our shitty new president.
  6. Thinking of getting a bumper sticker. Suggestions?
  7. I am excited for three movies this weekened Harold and Kumar, Baby Mama and Standard Operating Procedure. One is a stoner comedy, one is like the 4th movie in the last year I’ve seen about pregnancy, and one is a somber look at prison torture in Iraq. I want to see them equally.
  8. Want to make a post about summer movies because for some reason there are quite a few I am really goddamn exited for. Batman, Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Hellboy oh jesus!
  9. Also a lot of good albums coming out maybe. My Morning Jacket, Weezer, Portishead (even if I don’t like that gun song I keep hearing). Still haven’t purchased Sasquatch, Radiohead or even Iron Maiden tickets.
  10. Less worried about my job this week, but still trying to figure out something that will fit more snugly around my old britches. I strongly suspect the answer lies somewhere in that Tall-Boy beer coozie idea troy and I have been kicking around. I just need a goddamn manufacturing plant!

Clearing out the Docket

Posted by Matt on April 21, 2008

I’ve been reading MSNBC’s First Read website pretty much, um, first thing every day. I’ve tried to subscribe to other political blogs, but usually they just end up pissing me off, but this one seems to be pretty down the line and interesting. I hope the primary is effectively over in the next few weeks, I need a break from Hillary Clinton.

I may have mentioned this, but I’ve been listening to the Black Keys new album Attack & Release obsessively. They are set up a bit like the White Stripes where its just Guitar and Drums, but I haven’t listened to an album this much since, um, Z by My Morning Jacket maybe? Also Elbow’s “The Seldom Seen Kid” is good too. Also, also, I heard the new single from the upcoming Weezer album (The Red Album) and its surprisingly good. I used to love them, and as of their last album I pretty much hated them, so I’m glad to be upbeat.

Saw Forgetting Sara Marshall on Saturday night and I really liked it. Thought it was very funny all around. Paul Rudd almost steals the movie, but Mila Kunis steals it from him, and then some british dude steals it from her, so there you go. Also, naked men are just not attractive. I had seriously suspected it whenever I was around someone and was also naked, but this movie confirms it. I should seriously cover up when I’m lounging around the house.

My new TV is coming in like 8 days, which is suspiciously the same day that Grand Theft Auto IV comes out. I do not think I am prepared to play that game. I think I need some orange soda and weed.

Scuttling from meeting to meeting

Posted by Matt on April 17, 2008

So I screwed up at work, not just sort of bad, but pretty badly, it was a weird kind of screw-up where I thought I was being helpful and then it all went very wrong behind the scenes up until yesterday when the screw-up was discovered, interrogated and somehow managed to finger other smaller, but still embarrassing screw-ups in the cross-examination.

I don’t usually feel that bad for mistakes in general, they are unavoidable and with a little bit of kicking myself and an attempt at humor I can make myself feel better. But the problem here is that my stupid mistake caused a lot of other people a significant amount of extra work, and that feels, well, its sort of devastating in some ways. I may have strong reservations about my job, but fuck, I don’t want to fuck up other people’s time on earth as well.

On a positive note, I guess it showed how talented and resourceful some of the folks I work with are, so that’s good. A plus.

To make myself feel better I went to best buy and looked at TVs. Then I came home and bought one. It’s pretty much the same set of circumstances that caused me to buy a car last year.

Christ. I have to find myself another job, because next time I will buy a struggling diner from a greasy looking man I may have recently met at a poker game. You know I will. I’ll Probably trade the TV for it too.

Regarding two conversations at two bars over two days.

Posted by Matt on April 14, 2008

For some their favorite villain is perhaps Darth Vader. For me? I propose Gone in 60 Seconds’ Raymond Calitri.

It never rains, but it pours indeed, Mr. Calitri.

Raymond Calitri: You got 30 seconds to consider your options. One, you kill me, they kill you, your brother dies anyway.
Memphis: Shut it off!
Raymond Calitri: Two, you lie, you accept the job, you run, I hunt you down, I kill you, I kill your brother, and I kill your mother for the aggravation you cause me. Three, you accept the job, you steal some cars, you make some money, and you be a big brother.
[Memphis surrenders]
Raymond Calitri: 8 A.M. Friday morning. The cars are on the boat, or your brother’s in the coffin.

Here’s one thing I think about a lot

Posted by Matt on April 11, 2008

I think I’ve always wanted to raise pigs to make bacon, for a while it switched to turkeys, but now its back to pigs again. The weird thing is that I think pigs are really rad and yet, I want to raise them and become their friends, and then I would take them away, have them killed and eat them.

I guess I could sort of disassociate the two by pretending the slaughtering guy was like a vet, and the pigs had some sort of ‘looking to tasty to live’ disease.

Turkeys would be easier because from all reports I’ve heard they are stupid and annoying, though I also here that hunting a wild turkey is difficult, the captive ones apparently will drown in the rain.

Anyway, this was supposed to be quick, but the idea that I really want to raise pigs so I can have an effect on the way the bacon I eat tastes seems really weird and wrong, but also fun.

So there’s that.

Whoah!

Posted by Matt on April 11, 2008

I am having a good day I think. The weather is nice, I am giggling at stupid things on the internet, and apparently I am going to the baseball game tomorrow to call Carlos Silva a fatty.

Also, 30 Rock is back and was very funny, and I feel like Iike a I could kick down a door if the opportunity was presented.
