Appetite for Dr. Pepper

Posted by Matt on March 27, 2008

So yesterday evening I was calmly drifting across the internet, when I found this press release.

Let me summarize the release:

DR PEPPER WILL GIVE EVERYONE* IN AMERICA A FREE SODA IF AXL ROSE RELEASES NEW GUNS N’ ROSES ALBUM, CHINESE DEMOCRACY, IN 2008

*Guitarists Slash and Buckethead Will Not Be Eligible For Free Soda

This is pretty much my favorite marketing move ever, firstly I have been following the Chinese Democracy saga with keen interest over the years, and have heard a couple of the tracks (early version that sounded a bit over-produced to me), and I also think Dr. Pepper is one of the best soda’s out there. Way, way better than Dr. Skipper

Anyway, the 2nd best part about this whole thing is that Axl Rose responded and offered to share his soda with Buckethead:

We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album “Chinese Democracy,” as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.

Your move Mr. Axl Rose, your move…

    Poor Dr. Slash.

  2. Matt Says:

Dr. Slash is a good name for a horror movie.

It’s weird, I’ve thought a lot about Chinese Democracy, and I am alternately excited and horrified that it will come out. The Dr. Pepper thing has tipped the scales a bit though.

  3. TroyJMorris Says:

    It’s a good soda. It should entice completion. Although… that’s 299,999,998 sodas… that’s a lot.

  4. Matt Says:

yeah, not sure how they’ll go about doing it though. Probably have to register for a coupon though or something stupid like that.

I imagine something more grand, like a huge crowd of people around a Dr. Pepper soda truck with Axl Rose throwing them out by the handful to the cheering masses.

Go for it Axl. I love Dr. Pepper (and too cheap to actually pay for 1! LOL!)
